Foreign Languages- French

At Carr Mill Primary we aim to teach children about a wide range of countries and cultures. In KS2 children have a weekly lessons in French to encourage children to speak in sentences and write in a different language.

My name is Miss Rodgers and I am the subject leader for Modern Foreign Languages. Speaking another language is a wonderful skill to have, not only does it help when travelling, it is also a great advantage for studying in general. Acquiring a second language develops our communication skills but also enables us to develop strong cognitive skills such as mental flexibility, multitasking, and problem-solving.

I believe that it is very important to engage children with language learning as early as possible. The best way to do this is by delivering lessons that are fun and inspiring. My aim is to support teachers, to enable them to teach French in an exciting way that captures the children’s curiosity and leaves them wanting to learn more. Pupils will learn how to read and write basic sentences and gain confidence in speaking and listening in a new language through a wide range of songs, games and cultural activities related to France.

My hope is that the pupils at Carr Mill Primary School will develop an enthusiasm and love for language learning, which will prepare them for their language studies when they move on to secondary school.
