Design Technology
Carr Mill Primary School is committed to encouraging creativity through a wide variety of forms and expression. All children are encouraged to develop their artistic creativity, learn and acquire new skills and processes. They are given opportunities to explore a wide range of materials, tools and techniques in 2D, 3D and virtual form.
Design Technology provides visual, tactile and sensory experiences and a special way of understanding and responding to the world. It enables children to communicate what they see, feel and think through the use of colour, texture, form, pattern and different materials and processes.
Children become involved in shaping their environments through art and design activities. They learn to make informed judgements, aesthetic and practical decisions. They explore ideas and meanings through the work of artists and designers. Through learning about the roles and functions of DT, they can explore the impact it has had on contemporary life and that of different times and cultures.
My name is Mrs Kennedy and I am the subject leader for DT at Carr Mill Primary School. I have a passion for DT and realise that DT is all around us. Our aim is to encourage our children to become creative and innovative thinkers.
The world our children are growing up in is ever changing. With this is mind, we want to provide our children with the skills they need to design, create and build a variety of technology-based products. Our DT curriculum has been carefully planned to allow children to experience all skills and components of DT. We have made links to other areas of the curriculum to allow children to make links to prior learning and also be able to design and create with a purpose.
We aim to provide a range of CPD opportunities for all staff and have a culture of co-coaching and knowledge sharing across our school. Through this collective learning and development, our team is continually striving to be the best that it can be for the children of Carr Mill Primary School.
