Rowan - Week 1 SPRING 2, by Miss Taylor

Date: 28th Feb 2025 @ 3:35pm

Welcome back to our blog!

The start of our new term has been great! We have been working very hard.

During our English reading lessons, we have been reading The Nowhere Emporium. We have looked at character perspectives and how suspense is created within. We have picked out key features of language use and analysed why this has been used.

In our Writing lessons this week, we have been reading Can we save the tiger? We started the week off with a spooky visitor who completely trashed our classroom and left claw marks all around. It was the tiger! We put ourselves in the farmers shoes and gained an insight in to their perspective of this predator!

Maths this week has been a new topic on Perimeter and Area. We have enjoyed learning new concepts and identifying how to find the perimeter of missing sides.

We have also been focusing on healthy and unhealthy relationships in PSHE lessons and some great ideas as to how and why healthy relationships are important!

In computing, we have been identifying how to debug and code on Code Studio!

Hope you have a lovely weekend 😊

Rowan - Final Spring 1 blog, by Miss Taylor

Date: 14th Feb 2025 @ 9:31am

Welcome back to our final blog of Spring 1 half term!

In our English lessons this week, we have been focusing on haikus and have really enjoyed linking these to our recent Geography topic on oceans! We have all had some fantastic ideas and were very proud when performing them in front of the class. Take a look at some pictures of our work.

During our maths lessons we have been focusing on the topic of volume and have enjoyed using blocks and practical resources to find out the volume of certain objects!

We have had Art this week which has been a very popular subject within Rowan class. We looked at pop art and the work of Roy Lichenstein and Julian Opie. Then we created our own pop art piece of work based on the work of these two fantastic artists! It was great to hear the children complimenting each others work throughout – a real team spirit!

Due to our wonderful mental health achievement award last week, we have had a whole school party this afternoon!!!!! Dancing, pass the parcel and games – what more can you ask for?!

I hope you all have a great week off next week and look forward to our next term already! 😊

I hope this message finds you well. We’ve had another exciting and productive week in our classroom, and I can’t wait to share some highlights with you!

This Week in Class Rowan class have been hard at work, diving into new concepts and sharpening their skills. In maths, we have started a new topic: Volume and we have loved using practical resources to find the volume of different shapes!

In reading and writing this week, we had a lively discussion about The Lady of Shallot poem. We tried to imagine why or how she was given the curse and have written a blog entry from The Lady of Shalott’s point of view. There were lots of great vocabulary and grammar techniques used!

As it is children’s mental health week this week, we have focused on GROWTH – knowing yourself, growing yourself. We have celebrated our individual uniqueness and also what we love about ourselves! We have also investigated techniques we can use if we are feeling certain feelings. We were also VERY lucky to have such a special assembly on Friday – ask your child about this!!!! It was super exciting!!!!

Don’t forget next week is our final week of the term and we have our LOVE BUG disco on Thursday – something very exciting to look forward to! We are also starting our new art topic next week which is great!

Have a lovely weekend – don’t forget to check out our class twitter page:

Date: 30th Jan 2025 @ 1:23pm

Welcome back to our class blog!

Wow, what a great week we’ve had at school! We have been diving into new topics with such enthusiasm. Although it has been assessment week, we have made sure that we still have had a great week.

In our Geography topic, focusing on oceans, we have had discussions around plastic pollution. I have to say—I saw some real ‘lightbulb’ moments! We then conducted our own field trip in which we went around Carr Mill Dam to check how much plastic pollution we could find and what impact this is having on our environment. The children were shocked to see so much!

On Monday we attended Crucial Crew. This as very interesting as we had some informative talks with numerous agencies such as:

  • Police Department
  • Nursing Department
  • Gas and Engineering Department
  • Drugs and Alcohol Department
  • Road Safety Department

We were given practical advice on health and safety and what to do in an emergency – something I am sure you will agree is very important!

Next week we have ‘Children’s Mental Health Week’ and a jam-packed week it will be! There will be lots of activities focused on mental health and well-being and a special assembly. Don’t forget we have our ‘break the rules day’ on Wednesday!!!!!

Looking forward to another fantastic week ahead!

Rowan - Week 3, by Miss Taylor

Date: 23rd Jan 2025 @ 9:44am

Hello and welcome to our third blog of the term!

What a fantastic week we’ve had! Our classroom was buzzing with excitement as we investigated fungi in our Science experiment. We were so happy when our balloon started to expand but we were not too keen on the smell!!!!

We also had some fun with our writing topic focusing on the short clip: Alma. This clip has no words! The children had some wonderful ideas and have begun planning the words to the narrative ahead of their Star Write next week! Be sure to ask your child about this!

In our Maths lessons this week, we have been looking at multiplying a mixed number by an integer which the children have worked really hard on.

We have also been focusing on coding in Computing. This is something we all really enjoy doing!

During our PE sessions this week, Coach Olivia has been teaching us rolls in gymnastics. Take a look at the wonderful video below in which we showcase our fantastic performance!

We were also incredibly lucky to have the wonderful Max visit us on Wednesday. He is a real published child author. His book focuses on Autism and being a brother to autistic siblings. It was such a privilege to have him come in and read us his book – lots of us had some great questions to ask him and it has definitely inspired some of us! Be sure to ask your child about this and maybe check out his book: ‘I’m an autistic brother, what is your super power?’

Don’t forget that next week we have lots more exciting learning to take part in. We are attending Crucial Crew next week too which is sure to be an exciting day!

Have a wonderful weekend,

Miss Taylor 😊

Rowan Class - Second week, by Miss Taylor

Date: 14th Jan 2025 @ 3:40pm

Hello and welcome back to our second blog this term!

What a fantastic week that we have had in class!

The highlight of our week was definitely the TTRockstars battle that took place on Wednesday morning! Well Done to all of the children participating and making us so proud!

We have LOVED Science this week as we have delved deeper in to our classification topic and have been able to successfully classify animals and plants. We even did this as a practical activity and found plants outside to create our own classification key.

To celebrate Maths week, we have read ‘Bean Thirteen’ focusing on prime numbers. There were a lot of laughing faces in the classroom when reading this! Then we used beans to prove that certain numbers were/ were not prime numbers.

In our reading and writing lessons, we have continued with ‘The Highway Man’ this week and have completed our Star Write. We have written as if we were Tim the Ostler, taking in to account how Tim feels and the consequences of his actions!

We also celebrated Friday with our funky feet- don’t forget that any children who complete both pieces of homework each week get to take part in a treat on Friday afternoon AND wear their funky feet inside the classroom!

Have a lovely weekend. Be sure to check back next Friday to see even more amazing things that we will be doing!

We have enjoyed starting our new topic in Science on Classification and have really enjoyed classifying certain animals/plants due to their characteristics! This has definitely led to some great conversations.

Next week it's our Musical Maths Week! We have our annual TT Rockstars Battle taking place on Wednesday morning so a very exciting week to look forward to . Look out for the competition on SEESAW too!

Lastly, thank you for your ongoing support. Whether it's helping with homework, reading with your child, or simply cheering them on, it truly makes a difference. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions, concerns, or ideas!
